Men’s ODI World Cup: Gurbaz comments after Afghanistan shocks Pakistan, “I was waiting badly to beat them”

Prior to their record-breaking run chase, Afghanistan’s youthful opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz remarked that his squad was committed in ending their streak of ODI defeats against Pakistan and that “he was waiting badly” to defeat the neighbors.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-250581″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-mens-odi-world-cup-gurbaz-comments-after-afghanistan-shocks-pakistan-i-was-waiting.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com mens odi world cup gurbaz comments after afghanistan shocks pakistan i was waiting” width=”1133″ height=”849″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-mens-odi-world-cup-gurbaz-comments-after-afghanistan-shocks-pakistan-i-was-waiting.jpg 259w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-mens-odi-world-cup-gurbaz-comments-after-afghanistan-shocks-pakistan-i-was-waiting-150×112.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1133px) 100vw, 1133px” title=”Men's ODI World Cup: Gurbaz comments after Afghanistan shocks Pakistan, "I was waiting badly to beat them" 3″>

At the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan for the first time in an ODI on Monday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium by chasing down a target of 283 with only two wickets lost. In ODI history, this was their highest-ever chase.

The incredible win ended Afghanistan’s seven-match losing record against Pakistan in one-day internationals, which began with their first meeting in the format in 2012.

This inspiring victory against their ODI foe was praised as “really special” by Gurbaz.

“So joyful. Big victory. It was incredibly amazing to have waited so long for this game. Wow!” Following the victory, Gurbaz informed the ICC. We had been waiting for this type of game for six to seven years. They always defeated us when we challenged them. We defeated them for the first time then, the 21-year-old said to ICC.

Afghanistan came agonizingly close to upsetting Pakistan in the 2019 Cricket World Cup, but in the end, they lost a nail-biting match in the last over by only three wickets with just two balls to spare.

During a recent tri-series, which Pakistan managed to win by only one wicket on the last ball, the rivalry between the two sides got even more fierce. It’s important to remember, too, that in the previous five ODIs, Afghanistan had trouble matching Pakistan’s performance.

We are aware that everyone is ecstatic at home. I’m ecstatic! Since we lost to them in the previous World Cup, the Asia Cup, and the tri-series, I have been anticipating this match. Gurbaz said, “I was eager to outrun them.

With a blistering 65 from 53 balls in a 130-run opening partnership with Ibrahim Zadran that set up the record-breaking chase, the 21-year-old Gurbaz was essential to Afghanistan’s triumph.

Rahmat Shah, who contributed significantly to Afghanistan reaching 286/2 in 49 overs after holding Pakistan to 282/7 in 50 overs, struck an unbeaten 77 off 84 deliveries and had an undefeated 86-run partnership with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (48 not out).

Afghanistan has already defeated England by 69 runs, which is the second upset of the tournament for Afghanistan.

Following their victory on Monday, Afghanistan now shares a four-point lead with Australia and Pakistan in the team rankings. Now that they have defeated Sri Lanka, they can shift their attention to a semifinal run, which begins on October 30.
