WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is developing a chat interoperability function in order to abide with new EU rules.

Third-party Chats is an unfinished feature that WABetaInfo has discovered in the most recent iOS app beta version of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has been named as one of the businesses that will be governed by the new laws included in the DMA (Digital Markets Act).

The word “gatekeeper” implies that WhatsApp is in a dominating position in the messaging industry and must, therefore, abide by the guidelines established by the DMA.

According to the source, WhatsApp is creating a new area that would house all incoming messages from third-party conversations.

Users will be able to utilize several messaging applications to chat with others on WhatsApp thanks to this functionality.

As stated in the study, “interoperability allows a user of another messaging app, like Signal, to send messages to a WhatsApp user, even without a WhatsApp account.”

Furthermore, as per Article 7 of the laws, users will need to explicitly activate the interoperability service and have the opportunity to opt-out, meaning that customers will retain control over this function.

It has been claimed that WhatsApp is developing a new file sharing function that would make it simple for users to exchange files with anyone in their immediate vicinity.

Sending and receiving files will require both users to access the “people nearby” feature, guaranteeing safe sharing while close together.
