With six Indian players on the roster—Rohit, Virat Kohli, Shuban Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj—the squad is dominated by Indians. The eleven-member ODI squad of the year also includes Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand, Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen of South Africa, and Travis Head and Adam Zampa of Australia.

With 1,255 runs at an average of 52 in the ODIs in 2023, Rohit had a fantastic performance. At the ODI World Cup, he carried on his incredible form with hitting 131 against Afghanistan in Delhi.

In addition to his batting prowess, he led his team to the Asia Cup title with a convincing victory over Sri Lanka in the championship match. In the 50-over pinnacle, India came in second place behind Australia.

The opening batsman had the best start to the year, hitting 208 off 149 balls in Hyderabad against New Zealand, and he carried that momentum throughout the rest of the season. After hitting five hundreds, he concluded the year with 1,584 runs, the most of any hitter in 2023.

The middle-order hitter was essential to Australia’s championship-winning team. His innings of 137 against India in the final proved to be the decisive reason in his winning the sixth-best ODI championship ever. In the semi-final match against South Africa, his half-century and two wickets were also critical to Australia’s ability to secure a spot in the final.

Virat Kohli, the batting star for India, broke records in 2023 by reaching three figures six times. Along the way to taking home the Player of the Tournament trophy at the Marquee event, he also eclipsed the record held by India’s greatest cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, for the most international hundreds at the World Cup.

Rising talent Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand made a big impression for the Blackcaps in 2023, smashing five centuries at an average of 52.34.

Heinrich Klaasen, a batsman for South Africa, has been selected as the wicketkeeper for the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year. For much of 2023, the seasoned Proteas batsman was on fire, hammering home a magnificent 109 to lead his team to a decisive win against England in the ODI World Cup.

Due to his exceptional performance with the bat and the ball over the last 12 months, South Africa’s Marco Jansen was selected for the Team of the Year. In September, Jansen amassed his first five-wicket haul in an ODI while hitting a blistering 47 against Australia. He then carried over his impressive form into the World Cup, helping the Proteas achieve an impressive run to the semi-finals.

Adam Zampa, a spinner from Australia, made the ODI squad. During Australia’s victorious World Cup run, he took an astonishing three four-wicket hauls in a row and ended as the second highest wicket-taker.

Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj
Thanks to their outstanding 2023 performances, India’s bowlers Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav were selected for the ICC squad. Siraj concluded the ODI World Cup as the leading wicket-taker of the competition with 44 wickets, while Shami claimed four five-wicket hauls in 2023.

In the meanwhile, Kuldeep, the prolific left-arm spinner, concluded 2023 with an impressive 49 wickets in 49 One-Day Internationals.
