<p>Feelings run high while playing football. Despite being dubbed the “beautiful game,” unpleasant situations have often occurred in football. Football has seen fights on the pitch, from the memorable headbutt by Zinedine Zidane to the ‘Battle of Santiago’ at the 1962 World Cup. A recent video that is trending on social media serves as a comparable illustration of it. The video has been posted several times, although it’s unclear where and when it was shot. It seems to be a professional competition, and when one player rough-tackles his opponent, the action stops. The referee is startled as the remaining players start a violent brawl.</p>

The Asian Cup gets off on Friday, with the hosts, Qatar, the reigning champions, Japan as the favorites, and South Korea led by Son Heung-min promising to win the championship for the first time in 64 years. Over the course of the next four weeks, the 24 teams, which range from Australia to Palestine, will compete for regional championships. The match will take place at the 88,000-seat Lusail Stadium on February 10.</p>
<p>The World Cup final, which took place in Lusail 13 months ago and saw Argentina overcome France on penalties thanks to a team led by Lionel Messi, will be difficult to top.</p>
<p>Due to China’s Covid-19 regulations, the 18th Asian Cup was rescheduled to take place in Qatar, the host nation of the World Cup, this past summer instead of in China. Most World Cup venues will be used by Qatar; however, Stadium 974, the temporary arena partially constructed of shipping containers, will not be used.<br />
The Gulf state came under heavy criticism for its handling of migrant workers and human rights record in the run-up to the World Cup. Rights organizations argue that hardly much has changed since, a claim Qatar contests. Prior to the Asian Cup, there hasn’t been any such uproar.</p>
<p>Japan promises to eradicate “disagree.”</p>
<p>Although Qatar received praise for their flawless World Cup organization, the squad struggled on the field, suffering three consecutive losses—the worst performance of any host nation. Their ongoing suffering will spur them on as they defend their Asian championship, although Tintin Marquez, Carlos Queiroz’s successor, has had little time to train after being ousted as coach only a month ago.</p>
<p>Before taking over the national squad, the Spaniard managed Al Wakrah, a club in Qatar, for six years. “I know the players, I know my mentality and I know… my idea for playing,” he added.</p>
<p>At Lusail Stadium, Qatar takes on Lebanon to start the competition. The top two teams from each of the six groups of four advance to the round of 16, as do the top four third-place teams.</p>
<p>Japan, the most successful team in Asian Cup history with four trophies, seems to be the team to beat after being beaten 3-1 by Qatar in the 2019 final in the United Arab Emirates. After shocking Germany and Spain in the World Cup group stage and succumbing to Croatia on penalties in the round of sixteen, Japan has pleasant memories of Qatar.</p>
<p>Since then, Hajime Moriyasu’s squad has had a great year, winning a friendly 4-1 in Germany and only losing once in 12 games.</p>
<p>Despite the Brighton winger’s ankle injury, Moriyasu kept Kaoru Mitoma in his lineup and said that Japan is committed to moving beyond the “frustration” of their 2019 championship defeat.</p>
<p>For Klinsmann, it was all or nothing.</p>
<p>Other teams to keep an eye on include South Korea, Iran, Australia, and Saudi Arabia, all of which qualified for the 2022 World Cup and are past Asian champions. South Korea has the finest player in Asia in Son, a world-class athlete who is enjoying his game once again under Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. Son plays attacker for Tottenham Hotspur.</p>
<p>Given his inconsistent coaching career, South Korean supporters were dubious about the hiring of famed German striker Jurgen Klinsmann over a year ago.</p>
<p>However, after a sluggish start, Son and his team have found their rhythm. They won their most recent competitive game 3-0 in China, where Son scored twice and assisted on the third goal.</p>
<p>Anything less than winning the Asian Cup for the first time since 1960, according to the 59-year-old Klinsmann, would be considered a failure.</p>
