E-way Bill Generation Will Be Blocked Starting on March 1st Without B2B E-invoice Details

Starting on March 1, companies with annual revenue more than Rs 5 crore will not be permitted to create e-way bills without including e-invoice data for every B2B transaction.

E-way bills are necessary for the interstate transportation of products valued at more than Rs 50,000 under the goods and services tax system.

According to the National Informatics Centre (NIC), some taxpayers who are qualified for electronic invoicing are producing electronic way bills independently of electronic invoices for business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-export (B2E) transactions.

Certain specifications are not being satisfied by the invoice information that are submitted separately under the e-way bill and e-invoice in certain of these circumstances. The e-way bill and e-invoice statements are becoming inconsistent as a result of this.

“… starting on March 1, 2024, e-way bill generation will not be permitted without e-invoice details in order to prevent such situations.” The NIC notified GST taxpayers that this was relevant to e-invoice enabled taxpayers as well as to transactions pertaining to B2B and export-related suppliers.

The NIC said that e-way bills for other transactions, such as B2C and non-supplies, would continue to operate normally.
